Pam Mann is Winner of the 2008 William D. Barth Award

TriCity Family Services is honored to present the 24th Annual William D. Barth Award to Pam Mann.  Pam is an unsung hero in our town who, for decades, has quietly worked to enhance the lives of the people around her.   Pam has had a positive impact on the lives of hundreds of individuals living in the TriCity area, through her lifetime of volunteerism and community service.

Pam is a successful, dedicated woman who used her career in law to make the world a better place.  Pam was one of only two women in her graduating class at the University of Illinois Law School.  She was also one of the first women to work for the Kane County State’s Attorney’s office.  As a lawyer, she volunteered her time with Prairie State Legal Services, providing free legal services to people in need.  Pam’s commitment to the legal system also led her to volunteer with CASA Kane County, where she has advocated for the safety and protection of neglected and abused children.

Pam is a leader who has generously stepped up to fulfill leadership roles with many community organizations.  She was a leader with the Girl Scout Council, encouraging young girls to challenge themselves and reach their potential.  She is a past president and current member of the St. Charles Library Foundation, enhancing the quality and accessibility of library resources to the community.  Pam was also president of the Literacy Volunteers of the Fox Valley, and continues to volunteer teaching local residents to read, speak and write English and better understand their community.  Pam was also president of the Fox Valley Associates, devoted to expanding art education and appreciation.  She has been a member of the group for over three decades.

Along with her extensive volunteer work, Pam performs daily acts of generosity that are innumerable and invaluable to those whose lives she touches.  She belongs to a book club where she routinely offers to drive elderly members to and from meetings.  She has also spent the last several years making weekly visits to a neighbor with Parkinson’s disease for a game of cribbage.  She is a loving mother of two grown daughters, and a dedicated grandmother of a five year old and a six year old.  Pam was nominated for the William D. Barth Award by Carol Vander Weyden, her neighbor and family friend.

Pam continues to make a significant and lasting impact on this community every day.  We are honored to present her with the 2008 William D. Barth Award and induct her into the distinguished ranks of William D. Barth Award winners.
