Mom and Dad Chat 2017

“How Letting Children Fail Today Leads Them to Lifelong Success”

Join Adam Russo, LCSW, Founder, Chairman & CEO of Edgewood Clinical Services, for a presentation about the importance and role of failure in a child’s social, emotional and educational development.  So often, we are pushed to help kids succeed, but the process of failure is integral to the eventual success for all individuals.  We will also discuss how parents’ perception of success can paralyze, rather than foster, success in their children.

Adam Russo will present concrete examples of when and how to allow children to struggle, to fail, to grapple with difficult emotions and to emerge ready to try again when they are in elementary, middle and high school.  Learn how to give your children age-appropriate responsibilities and to give them opportunities to plan tasks that have both complex steps and delayed gratification (rather than instant success).  Go home with questions you can ask yourself to guide you in deciding when and how to allow your children to struggle and/or fail.  Leave the presentation with a clear picture of what it looks like to support your children’s development of perseverance and resilience.  You will leave with specific steps you can take to implement the concepts described in this presentation.
