The name is new and the program is updated, but the focus is the same. Compass for Girls (formerly Chick Chat by HGNA) provides a great way for 4th– and 5th-grade girls to enhance their social and emotional skills, including: self-awareness, managing emotions, problem solving, developing healthy relationship skills, becoming more empathic, and understanding personal power.
This full-day workshop consists of small group break-out sessions (of 8-12 girls), which include mini lessons, interactive experiences, team-building, and active games with the goal to provide girls with the opportunity to learn and share while having fun. Lunch, a t-shirt, yoga, meaningful crafts, and ready-to-use take-aways will all be included in this exciting day!
The Compass for Girls: Building Healthy Relationships with Ourselves and Others curriculum was created specifically for girls by Navigate Adolescence (formerly named HGNA) and is different for the 4th graders than for the 5th graders. To help the girls develop their inner compass and apply what they learn at the workshop to their everyday lives, the Compass Curriculum is divided into four segments, corresponding with the directions on a compass.
This program is offered by TriCity Family Services and the Geneva Coalition for Youth, with the support of Geneva CUSD 304. Compass no longer includes 6th graders as Chick Chat did because 6th graders are, instead, invited to participate in Trek, a workshop created by Navigate Adolescence that is offered in the Fall. ALL girls in 4th and 5th grades from public, private, and homeschools are welcome at Compass for Girls!
