Who may attend?

Women who have been divorced, widowed or never married and who have children ranging from infancy to preadolescence.

Why a group setting?

The group setting decreases isolation, offers multiple solutions to problems, provides resources and helps the single mom feel okay about being single.

What am I going to accomplish

Moms develop their own goals that are addressed through group interaction and discussion. These discussions may include:

  • improving parenting skills, such as building self-esteem in children and developing effective discipline
  • how to take care of yourself, manage stress and improve self-esteem and self-acceptance
  • ways to increase assertiveness, set boundaries in relationships and develop problem solving and decision making skills

How can I get involved?

The Single Mom's Support Group meets every Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.  A second group has been added, meeting Mondays from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Child care is provided. Moms are asked to make a minimum four-week commitment; however, they remain in the group as long as needed.

How much does it cost?

The cost for the group is $5.00 per session. The group will be facilitated by a TriCity Family Services' professional.

Single mothers are often overwhelmed, depressed and isolated. They struggle to balance the many roles thrust upon them through divorce, death or other circumstances.

A single mother finds herself being the primary caregiver/nurturer/parent, income provider and decision maker

Single moms may be so involved in meeting the needs of their children and the demands of their jobs that they do not have adequate time to care for themselves.

The overwhelming stress associated with managing these multiple roles may compromise their parenting effectiveness.

This single-moms group provides those going it alone with both educational and supportive opportunities that will help:

  • to diminish stress
  • manage multiple demands
  • provide effective guidance for children

"The single moms' group has been very
beneficial to me because it helps to have
people who know and understand what you
are going through. You can feel pretty isolated
and lonely at times so it helps to share
thoughts and feelings."
