Laura Kenward joined the TriCity Family Services team in 2020 as an intern prior to being hired the following year. She completed her ungraduate degree at Aurora University and received her Master’s of Social Work from Jane Addams College of Social Work, University of Illinois at Chicago.
Kenward takes a strengths-based approach and enjoys assisting people of all ages to recognize their potential, build their inner and outer resources, and embrace their individuality. She values creating a safe and comfortable therapeutic environment. Her approach is to listen and be curious first to allow the client space to share their story and struggles without judgment.
Drawing on a variety of therapy methods based on what appears most helpful in the moment, Kenward enjoys utilizing narrative therapy techniques to explore her client’s perspectives of past experiences and empower them to take back control of their stories. She believes in walking alongside those seeking therapy and encourages a collaborative approach so her clients can be active participants and receive what they need out of their experience.
Kenward has previous experience working with students at the college and with trafficking survivors at a local safehouse. She lives locally and supports community involvement.
